Matthews, N.C : 2 hit by vehicle after chain reaction crash in Matthews on Tuesday night, January 6, 2015

Two people got out of a car after a multiple-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Independence Boulevard at Interstate 485 in Matthews and were struck by a passing vehicle, officials said.

The two who were struck were in the car in the front of a rear-end collision involving three vehicles. They were taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

A passenger in another vehicle was also taken to the hospital, paramedics said.
There were no charges pending Tuesday night.
