FOUNTAIN HILL, PA : Alleged DUI wreck injures three, driver caught after foot chase on Sunday, 27th January 2019

A Bethlehem man allegedly fleeing an early-morning traffic stop injured three people, when he ignored a stop sign and collided with a car.

Hector L. Rivera Jr., of Monocacy Street, now faces more than a dozen charges in connection with an alleged DUI wreck Sunday morning in Fountain Hill. District Judge Charles Crawford arraigned the 23-year-old hours later, setting bail at $25,000.

A Fountain Hill police officer on patrol shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday first spotted Rivera’s Ford Focus in the 1100 block of Broadway. Police said the vehicle was drifting and swerving, nearly hitting parked vehicles.

When the officer tried to stop Rivera, he allegedly sped away, swerving across the center line, according to court records. Police said the driver ignored red lights at Broadway and Route 378 and Broadway and East Fourth Street. Rivera then allegedly blew through a stop sign at Broadway and Brodhead Street, colliding with a Toyota Corolla.

Police said two people in the Corolla and one person in Rivera’s car were injured, according to records. Court records do not indicate the seriousness of the injuries.

Rivera abandoned his car after the wreck and was apprehended a few blocks away after a foot chase. Police said he smelled of marijuana.
