DUPLAIN TWP, MI : Elderly Elsie man killed in two-vehicle crash on Island Road near Lusk Road in Duplain Township near Elsie on Thursday, 23rd January, 2020

An elderly Elsie man was killed in a two-vehicle crash after he hit a deer Thursday evening.

John Kirby, 77, struck a deer just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Island Road near Lusk Road in Duplain Township near Elsie, according to a news release from the Clinton County Sheriff's Department.

When Kirby got out of his vehicle to assess the damage, a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Elsie man swerved to avoid Kirby's vehicle and struck the 77-year-old, police said.

The 21-year-old lost control of his vehicle, which veered off the road and overturned.

Kirby was pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old was taken to Sparrow Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
