COLUMBIA, SC : Man killed after crashing into parked tow truck in Columbia on Saturday, February 18th 2017

Authorities say one man has been killed after he crashed into the back of a tow truck parked near a mall in Columbia, then careened into oncoming traffic.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a statement that 25-year-old Eric Karnickey Jr. died from head and neck injuries at the scene of the 6:15 p.m. Saturday wreck not far from the Columbia Place Mall.

Troopers say Karnickey’s car hit the tow truck which was parked off the side of the road and then went into the other lane of traffic and was hit head on.

Troopers say Karnickey was not wearing a seatbelt. No one else was injured.
