Corpus Christi, TX : Man dead after a two vehicles collided near Taft on Thursday evening, August 4, 2016

A Corpus Christi man is dead after a two vehicles collided Thursday evening near Taft, according to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.

A 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup hauling a trailer struck a tractor-trailer from behind on Farm to Market Road 631 at approximately 5:06 p.m. The pickup, occupied by a driver and passenger, then overturned into a ditch.

The driver, 32-year-old Samuel Luis Cruz Jr., was pronounced dead on the scene. The male passenger was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial with injuries that were not life threatening.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Troopers were still investigating the cause of the incident Thursday night.
