Bear Creek Township, MI : Cyclist killed in crash near Petoskey on Sunday, August 7, 2016
A 61-year-old bicyclist was killed Sunday after being struck by a vehicle traveling on U.S. 31 North near the entrance to the Fotchman Industrial Park in Bear Creek Township.
Authorities said Tracy Butler was riding a bicycle on the paved shoulder area of the northbound U.S. 31 lanes at 12:48 p.m. when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala driven by Frank Veraldi, 66, struck the cyclist.
Butler was pronounced dead a short time later at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital, authorities said.
Emmet County Sheriff Pete Wallin said the incident is under investigation. Veraldi was arrested at the scene lodged at the Emmet County Jail, pending authorization of charges by the Emmet County prosecutors office.
