Madison, WI : 20-year-old pedestrian struck by hit-and-run driver on W. Johnson Street early Saturday morning, January 30, 2016

A downtown resident suffered minor injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing W. Johnson Street early Saturday morning according to a release from the Madison Police Department.

A witness told police the victim was in the crosswalk and had a walk light as he walked south on N. Bassett Street around 1:04 a.m. .

The passerby said a speeding car struck the pedestrian in the middle of the roadway.

The witness heard the driver state, "Oh my God, I hit someone." and then took off.

The witness helped get the 20-year-old victim out of the roadway.

Police said the victim was treated at the scene.
