Tucson, AZ : Mimi Jones, 51, dies after midtown crash in Tucson on Monday, January 5, 2015

A woman died at University of Arizona Medical Center Monday after a morning crash in midtown.

Mimi Jones, 51, was pronounced dead at the hospital after the 7 a.m. crash at the intersection of East 22nd Street and South Country Club Road, said Officer Brandon Tatum, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Traffic detectives determined that a 2002 Hyundai Accent, driven by Jones, ran a red light heading north on Country Club Road. The car was struck by a 2010 Toyota Tundra truck that was headed east on 22nd Street, Tatum said.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

This fatality was the first of the year within city limits. In 2014, there were 43 fatalities in the city, according to TPD data.
