Abilene,TX : Abilene boy, 11, dead in two-vehicle crash in Eastland County on January, Saturday 20th 2018

An 11-year-old child was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Eastland County Saturday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Isaiah Gonzalez, 11, of Abilene, was killed after a vehicle he was a passenger in was struck by an off-duty, out-of-state fire truck at about 6:35 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 20 two miles east of Cisco, DPS said.

Two other people in the vehicle were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Eastland Memorial Hospital, DPS said.

According to a preliminary crash report, the two vehicles traveling east collided while approaching a slowdown on the interstate due to a previous crash.

As they were slowing down, the vehicle Isaiah was in was struck from behind by the fire truck, DPS said. The truck's driver was from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The crash sent the truck into the center median and the smaller vehicle into the south ditch, where it then caught fire, DPS said.

DPS said the crash is still under investigation.
