Manassas ,VA : Manassas police officer injured and woman Charged in Crash along Prince William Parkway crash on Friday Morning , April 3rd 2015
A Manassas city police officer was injured and a 79-year-old Maryland woman charged after a crash early Friday morning on the Prince William Parkway bypass near Va. 28.
The officer had made a traffic stop just outside the city limits on the parkway about 12:56 a.m. The officer was in a marked cruiser with blue lights flashing, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
“Both vehicles stopped along the roadway’s shoulder outside of the travel lanes when the driver of a 2000 Ford E150 approached from behind and struck the cruiser,” Perok said.
The force of the collision pushed the cruiser into the stopped vehicle, trapping the officer inside the patrol car.
“The officer was in and out of consciousness and was flown to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries,” Perok said. No other injuries were reported.
Police charged the pickup driver, 79-year-old Peggy Durage Drauglis of St. Michaels, Md., with reckless driving for failure to maintain control of her vehicle, Perok said.
In Virginia, drivers must safely change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles along roadways.
