Two people riding bicycles were killed when struck by a vehicle Saturday morning in Muskego, police said.
A 45-year-old Franklin man and a 55-year-old Oak Creek resident were hit about 6:30 a.m. on State Highway 36 south of Muskego Dam Road, according to the Muskego Police Department.
A 20-year-old South Milwaukee man was driving the vehicle.
The accident shutdown the highway for several hours.
Police have not released the victims' names. They said the Franklin man died on the scene and the Oak Creek man died at a hospital.
Several neighbors were awakened by the emergency response. One of them, Tina Weber, said it's not uncommon to see bicyclists riding along the highway.
"It's extremely sad. I'm feeling, just thinking about the families," she said.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. They said the driver is cooperating.
