Commerce, OK : Quapaw woman dies in motorcycle accident on Saturday, July 2, 2016
A Quapaw woman died in a motorcycle accident July 2, according to law enforcement officials.
Janet Kelly, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to officials, the accident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. near the 700th block of North Mickey Mantle Boulevard. Officers from the Commerce Police Department and several other agencies responded to the scene.
Commerce Police Chief Ray Horn said Kelly was a passenger on the motorcycle driven by a male who lost control and veered off the road.
The name of the driver was not released.
"The District Attorney's Office said to hold off on giving out the name of the driver because they haven't received the paperwork and don't know about charges," Horn said.
The driver was transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin by Quapaw Tribe Fire/EMS. He was listed in stable condition at press time.
Horn said the motorcycle was traveling northbound. Neither Kelly or the driver were wearing a helmet. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Officials said the accident is still under investigation.
