Single-vehicle crash causes Route 6A shutdown

A driver was uninjured Sunday afternoon when his truck hit a telephone pole on Route 6A.

Around 4:30 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to Route 6A near Willow Street, where the snapped pole was obstructing traffic, said Barnstable police Officer Steve O'Brien.

Traffic in the area was diverted for a short time while Verizon repaired the pole, O'Brien said.

The driver, Joseph Ford, 23, of Sandwich, the only person in the truck, was not taken to the hospital, said West Barnstable fire Lt. William Murray.

According to the Barnstable police, Ford said he fell asleep at the wheel. He was cited for operating to endanger.
