SPRINGFIELD, OH : Man killed in overnight hit and run crash is identified on Friday, 4th November 2016
Springfield Police have identified the victim in a fatal hit and run accident.
The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Phillip A. Carlton, from Lorain.
Carlton was killed and another woman suffered minor injuries when a car hit them near the intersection of Court and South Shaffer Streets.
After searching the area, police found the car from that accident behind the Nite Owl Bar on Race Street. The car had a broken windshield and broken headlight.
Police tried to speak with the man linked to that car, but he spit on officers and ran away.
Officers quickly detained the man and arrested him on a charge of harassment with a bodily fluid. Police say they will interview that man in connection with the hit and run accident.
Police responded to a call of a man hit by a vehicle around 1 a.m. on Friday.
When officers arrived on the scene, they Carlton laying in the road and unresponsive.
He was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The woman who was struck suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. The accident investigation team and a detective unit are on the scene of the crash.
