Milwaukee, WI : Pedestrian killed in crash in Milwaukee on Sunday, April 3, 2016

A 29-year-old man driving with a suspended license hit and killed a pedestrian late Sunday in Milwaukee.

The man was driving a Jeep Compass east in the 7700 block of W. Appleton Ave. about 11:15 p.m. when a 68-year-old man crossed the street mid-block and was hit, according to Milwaukee police.

The pedestrian, Alan Michael Jeffrey, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the crash site and was arrested on tentative charges of operating with a suspended license causing death, police said.

A relative told investigators Jeffrey recently had been acting as if he may have Alzheimer's disease and had an upcoming medical appointment to discuss the possibility, according to records from the medical examiner's office. The relative said he didn't know why Jeffrey was walking around at night, the reports say.

Milwaukee police expect to refer the case to prosecutors this week.
