Police say a woman died on her way to the hospital after hitting a utility truck that was parked along U.S. 19-23 near Asheville Chevrolet Friday morning.
Christina Michaela Nowak, 20, of Hendersonville, had been driving toward downtown when the Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV she was driving hit the rear of the utility vehicle, according to spokeswoman Christina Hallingse with the Asheville Police Department.
A Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County employee was injured in the accident and taken to Mission Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Hallingse said.
The accident happened around 10:30 a.m., and two lanes had been shut down while emergency responders worked to clear the scene. By 11:30 a.m., traffic was moving.
Police officers and the Asheville Fire Department remained on-scene at 11:45 a.m. to finish the accident investigation.
