Kapolei, HI : Fatal crash closes part of Farrington Highway near Ko Olina on Wednesday, 28th November 2018

A 50-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash on Farrington Highway near Ko Olina on Wednesday.

According to police, the man was driving a Nissan pickup truck eastbound on the highway around 12:55 p.m. when he apparently veered off the roadway, struck a grassy embankment and collided with the Aliinui Drive Overpass.

The man died at the scene.

Police said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol may also have been factors.

This was the the 60th traffic-related fatality of the year, compared to 40 at the same time last year.

Police closed the right Waianae-bound lane of Farrington Highway at Aliinui Drive while an investigation was conducted.

According to KHON2, Steven Paling identified the victim as his son Clyde Paling, a father of two who was a construction crane operator. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser contacted a family member of the victim but he declined to comment.
