Worcester, MA : A Warren woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on February, Thursday 15th 2018
A Warren woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer on Thursday, according to state police.
Police said the woman was driving east at high speed in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer about 1:10 p.m. when the SUV went into the breakdown lane and hit the guardrail. It bounced off the guardrail, hit the side of a tractor-trailer and rolled over, ejecting the driver. She was taken to Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Police were withholding the victim’s name until family could be notified.
The Trailblazer landed on its roof in the middle of the road, and the 2001 Volvo tracktor-trailer jackknifed, blocking the left lane, police said. The truck driver was not injured.
The crash closed all eastbound lanes for 45 minutes, and only the breakdown lane was reopened after that time. The two travel lanes were closed for 6½ hours.
The crash is under investigation. State police were assisted by Palmer Fire and EMS and the state Department of Transportation.
