Bend, OR : A 66-year-old La Pine man died in a three-vehicle crash on Monday, June 26, 2017
A 66-year-old La Pine man died in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon that closed Burgess Road west of Day Road in south Deschutes County, according to fire and law enforcement officials.
Warren Hensman, 66, had been traveling west on Burgess in a pickup about 12:35 p.m. when he stopped to make a left turn into The Corner Store parking lot, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Rollie Gray, 69, of La Pine, was also driving west in a Freightliner tow truck and struck Hensman’s pickup from behind.
The impact pushed the pickup into oncoming traffic and into the path of a Kia Soul, which hit the front of the pickup.
Medics from the La Pine Rural Fire Protection District extricated Hensman from his truck, and he began receiving emergency treatment. However, he died before reaching the hospital, the news release stated. The driver of the Kia, Jennifer Mitchell, 39, of La Pine, along with her 10-year-old passenger, who was unnamed in the release, were taken to St. Charles Bend for nonlife threatening injuries. Tow truck driver Gray and his 14-year-old passenger, also unnamed in the release, were uninjured. Burgess Road remained closed late Monday afternoon.
