Nashville, GA : Berrien County man dies in tractor accident on Monday, October 20, 2014
A man was killed in Berrien County in an accident involving a farm tractor on Monday.
At approximately, 6:13 p.m., the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office responded to Open Door School Road after receiving a report that a man had been trapped under a tractor. Alapaha Fire and Rescue Units were dispatched to the scene along with Tift County and Berrien County EMS, but the victim of the accident had died prior to their arrival, according to Berrien County Sheriff Anthony Heath.
James Turner, 27, was reportedly driving a tractor for Billingham Farm when his tractor overturned in a pond, trapping him underwater, according to Heath.
“For an unknown reason, he was leaving a driveway and turning onto a dirt road and drove across the road onto a pond dam,” said Heath. “The tractor rolled over onto its left side, pinning him under the water and under the tractor.”
An unknown amount of time had passed before the tractor was noticed by a passerby who then alerted Billingham Farms, according to Heath.
“Employees used a forklift and chain to lift the tractor off of him, but some time had already passed,” said Heath.
