Bartley, W.V : Man dies after vehicle crashes into stream in McDowell on Tuesday, February 14, 2017
A McDowell County man died Tuesday after his vehicle ran off the road and overturned into a stream.
The crash occurred in the Bartley community. The vehicle overturned into the Buck Fork stream, according to Trooper B.D. Gillespie of the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment.
Gillespie said at approximately 1:19 p.m. Tuesday members of the West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment were dispatched by the McDowell County 911 Center to the Bartley area of McDowell County in reference to the single-vehicle crash.
Gillespie said upon arrival, it was discovered that a white GMC Jimmy had traveled off the roadway edge of County Route 83/1.
"(It traveled) over an embankment and overturned into the Buck Fork stream," Gillespie said in his report. "The victim was pronounced dead prior to being transported from the crash scene."
Gillespie said the victim was a 73-year-old white male from McDowell County. His identity was not immediately released Tuesday.
Gillespie was assisted by Senior Trooper L. F. Lee and Trooper M. D. Brooks.
