Gainesville, FL : A Newberry man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on County Road 235 on Thursday, January, 25th 2018

A Newberry man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on County Road 235 Thursday night, when the pickup he was driving collided with a semi.

Mitchell Cornwell, 32, was driving a Dodge pickup truck north on County Road 235, while Williston resident Timothy Hopson, 51, was driving a Freightliner south, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

For unknown reasons, pickup crossed the center line, near 3146 NW CR 235, directly into the path of the semi.

Cornwell was pronounced dead on the scene by Alachua County Fire Rescue. Hopson was transported to North Florida Regional Medical Center as a precaution, the report says.

The crash is still under investigation.
