Police on Tuesday released the name of the bicyclist who died after a collision with an SUV just before midnight on Monday.
In a news release, the East Providence Police Department said that the victim was Ethan Simpson, 21, of Forbes Street in Riverside.
The initial investigation by the East Providence Police Traffic and Detective Division indicates that an older SUV, going south on Willett Avenue, made a left turn onto Arrowhead Avenue. Simpson was going north at the same intersection, and the bicycle and SUV collided.
Neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, and the vehicle operator was not charged, the news release said. The investigation is continuing.
Simpson’s parents told East Providence police that he was on the dean’s list at Rhode Island College and was an avid bicyclist.
