MANATEE COUNTY, FL : Manatee County deputy dies in crash on Thursday, September 28th 2017

An off-duty Sheriff’s Office deputy was killed in a crash Thursday morning.

According to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow, Corrections Deputy Shaun Feverston, 28, had finished his shift and was heading home when the crash occurred.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that George C. Grigsby, 59, of Palmetto was driving a Ford F250 that was towing a utility trailer west on Moccasin Wallow Road at Bud Rhoden Road at about 7:10 a.m. Feverston was driving a Jeep Wrangler east on Moccasin Wallow Road, approaching the intersection with Bud Rhoden Road.

Grigsby made a left turn, traveling into the path of Feverston’s Jeep, FHP reports. The front of the Ford collided with the front of the Jeep, causing the Jeep to overturn onto its right side.

Feverston, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in December 2013, Bristow wrote in an email.

Grigsby, who was wearing a seat belt, was hospitalized with minor injuries. He was charged with violation of right of way, the FHP says.
