Fort Walton Beach, FL : Man killed in overnight wrong-way, head-on crash on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

Florida Highway Patrol has reported that one man was killed and another man left in critical condition following a wrong-way, head-on crash Wednesday night.According to a FHP news release, Joshua Wesley Howell, 39, of Lynn Haven was driving a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D the wrong way on U.S. 231, just north of the intersection with County Road 2321 in Bay County at 11:21 p.m. Wednesday. Howell was traveling north in the inside southbound lane when he collided head-on with a 2004 Chevrolet pickup driven by Marcus Edward Cromer, 23, of Youngstown. Cromer was properly traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to violently rotate counter-clockwise, with the pickup spinning into a ditch on the west side of U.S. 231, facing east. The Mercedes remained on the roadway, coming to a final rest in the southbound inside lane, facing west.
Howell was pronounced dead at the scene while Cromer was listed early Thursday morning in critical condition at Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City.
The release noted that results of an alcohol test are pending as are charges in the fatal crash.
