HOOSICK, NY : Local brewer killed in tractor accident on Tuesday, July 4, 2017
The brewer for Brown's Brewing Company died at his home Tuesday when the tractor he was riding flipped, Rensselaer County Sheriff Patrick Russo said Thursday.
At about 8 p.m., Peter Martin was pulling stumps out of his 1254 Pine Valley Road property when the chain hooked to the back of his tractor caused the machinery to flip and crush him, Russo said. Russo said the county medical examiner pronounced Martin dead at the scene.
Martin, 45, was a longtime employee of the Troy-based brewery. The company released a statement Wednesday, saying he "was loved by many and was an integral part of our Brown's Brewing family."
According to an obituary to run in the Times Union Saturday, Martin "loved the outdoors, his family, his work and any project that called to him."
"Peter was always willing to help others, despite his own vast list of projects and responsibilities, with an enthusiastic zeal to exceed expectations,"the notice says.
He is survived by his long-time beloved girlfriend Laurie Lucier, daughters Emily and Sarah Martin, parents James and Patricia Martin, brother James P. Martin (Heather), sister Carrie Martin, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service and celebration of Martin's will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brown's Brewing Company - Walloomsac Tap Room, 50 Factory Hill Road in Hoosick Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a college tuition trust will be established for his daughters, the obituary says. Checks should be made payable to "Fund for the education of Emily Martin and Sarah Martin" and mailed to the Brown's Brewing Co. address above or brought to the service.
