NORWALK, CT : Car crashes through doors at community college on Tuesday, 8th November 2016
State Police said a man accidentally drove his car through the handicapped entrance into the east campus building of Norwalk Community College Tuesday night.
Troopers at the scene said the accident occurred because the driver mistook the accelerator for the brake pedal. They said it was unclear if he was experiencing a medical condition at the time.
Firefighters were called to the building at around 9:15 p.m.
The car, a Subaru Outback, drove the length of a sidewalk that runs across the front of the building before plowing through two sets of double doors and into a lobby area outside the library.
A security guard said the area would have been filled with students had the library been open at the time. It closed at 8 p.m.
The troopers said the driver had no apparent injuries, but he was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.
They said it was unknown if he would face charges.
The car's engine continued running after the accident, and a firefighter drove it out of the building.
