Blair, NE : Two-vehicle accident involving a semitractor-trailer in Blair on Wednesday, August 16, 2017
A woman and an infant were transported to the hospital after two-vehicle accident involving a semitractor-trailer Wednesday in Blair.
Blair Police and Blair Fire and Rescue responded to the crash at approximately 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of North 19th and Washington streets.
A southbound semitrailer was attempting to turn eastbound from North 19th Street when the crash occurred, Lt. Aaron Barrow said. Northbound traffic had stopped for a yellow light, but a blue 2007 Kia Optima didn't, according to a witness. The car struck the semitrailer nearly head-on.
The driver of the car was Katherine J. Allen, 26, of Blair. Her vehicle was totaled. The driver of the semitrailer was Patrick L. Batenhorst, 50, of West Point. Damage to the semitrailer was $200.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The child was in a child safety seat. Air bags deployed in the car.
Allen was extricated from the car. She and the infant were taken to Memorial Community Hospital & Health System in Blair with possible head injuries. Barrow didn't believe the child was injured severely.
Allen was cited for the crash.
