Jacksonville, FL : Nine injured after car crashes into plasma donation building on Blanding Blvd. on Saturday October 25th 2014
DCI Biologicals is a plasma donation center. It's now damaged after police say Pamela Miller crashed her red sedan through the front of it.
"She pulled up and she was looking down into her lap and then accelerated through the front door at full speed," said Ford.
Police say a mix of employees and customers were inside at the time.
This woman was inside. She said the car was aiming for the building. She says the roof collapsed and injured people.
"I was sitting over there and heard this big boom, I turned around and the roof just came and toppled," said Youlanda Elmore.
Emore was lucky, police say nine people including Miller were hurt.
"One man got his face cut all the way on the side and a lady she and two, three other people were underneath the sheet rock, underneath the metal," said Elmore.
We wanted to know what caused the woman to do this in the first place.
It happened at DCI Biologicals. Witnesses tell me it was full of people when the car slammed into the lobby.
"Some folks are saying that she was upset because she wasn’t able to donate and after she was told she couldn’t donate she left and crashed the car to the building," said Lt. Derek Mitchell.
"I'm so thankful I was already outside of the door and out of the way because she didn’t spare any mercy for anybody," said Ford.
Action News spoke to employees of DCI Biologicals to see why a person would get turned away from donating plasma. They say there is a criteria you must meet. We're told it offers $50 for the first five times you donate.
