Mason City, IA : Clarion man dies in a crash at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City on Wednesday, 15th August 2018
A man whose pickup crashed into the side of an oncoming Peterbilt Wednesday has died, the Iowa State Patrol reported.Robert R. Rauch, 24, of Clarion, passed away Wednesday at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, according to his obituary from Ewing Funeral Home.
The state patrol said it’s unclear why Rauch’s 1992 GMC Sierra crossed the centerline around 7:19 a.m. Wednesday. He was driving west on County Highway D20 east of Fort Dodge, near Sampson Avenue.
A Peterbilt roll-off truck was coming the other way. It tried to move into the shoulder to avoid the pickup, but the pickup collided with the left side of the vehicle, behind the driver’s area, State Patrol Lt. Mark Miller said.
The other driver was not hurt.
Rauch was taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, then airlifted to Mason City. He was extricated from the vehicle by the Vincent and Duncombe fire departments, Miller said.
