Fredericksburg, VA : Two people were hurt and a truck driver was charged a tractor–trailer collided on Thursday, December, 21st 2017
Two people were hurt and a truck driver was charged Thursday morning after a tractor–trailer collided with cars stopped at a red light on U.S. 17 in Stafford County, according to the Stafford Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the southbound lanes of U.S. 17 at the Village Parkway intersection, the Sheriff's Office said in a release. The crash closed the lanes for several hours. They have since been opened.
The Sheriff's Office said the truck ran into a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, sending the SUV crashing into a 2008 Ford Escape. Both SUVs had been waiting at the light in the right lane.
A 61-year-old Stafford woman who was driving the Avalanche and a 69-year-old Stafford man driving the Escape were taken to the hospital for injuries that the Sheriff's Office said did not appear to be life-threatening.
The driver of the semi was not hurt and was charged with reckless driving, the Sheriff's Office said.
In November, a tractor–trailer plowed through stopped vehicles at a red light on State Route 3 at Gateway Boulevard in Fredericksburg. A woman and man died from injuries they suffered in the six-vehicle crash.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, James Edward Lee, 62, of McDonough, Ga., was driving the semi, which did not have a trailer attached. He was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter.
