A police officer was treated and released from an area hospital following a high-speed chase that exceeded 100 mph and collision.
According to an article by Fox 23 in Tulsa, an officer stopped a driver, identified as 50-year-old Darwin Springer, at 10:35 p.m. Saturday near an apartment complex on Sixth Street in Grove. Springer sped off when the officer approached his vehicle, starting a chase that exceeded more than 100 mph, according to a news release.
Officers chased Springer throughout the city, and Springer tried cutting through a convenience store's parking lot to get away. Officer Steven Stogner tried to cut off Springer's vehicle, but Springer drove into the squad car, forcing it off the road and into a creek, the release said.
Stogner was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Springer continued the pursuit with officers and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers before troopers used a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver to end the chase near 13th and Main.
He was booked into the Delaware County Jail, and authorities anticipate charging him with assault and battery with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an injury accident, attempting to elude law enforcement and outstanding warrants.
