Marysville, CA : A 72-year-old Yuba City man died when his car collided on Thursday, November, 2nd 2017
A 72-year-old Yuba City man died Thursday when his car collided head-on with another vehicle in Yuba County, the California Highway Patrol said.
At about 10:30 a.m. an uninvolved vehicle was stopped in the eastbound lane of Highway 20 east of Spring Valley Road to turn into a private driveway, with several other vehicles stopped behind it.
The 72-year-old, driving a 1999 Nissan Maxima, was approaching from behind the stopped vehicles.
A 2017 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling west on Highway 20, approaching the stopped vehicles, when the Maxima veered to the left of the vehicles, crossing the double yellow lines and entering the westbound lane, according to a CHP press release.
The driver of the truck saw the Maxima directly in front of him and swerved onto the right shoulder of the road to avoid the collision, but the Maxima swerved in the same direction and struck the front of the truck, causing major damage.
The two occupants of the pickup – Mark H. Keese, 30, and Mark H. Keese, 60, both of Nevada – were transported to Rideout Memorial Hospital for moderate and major injuries, respectively. The elder Keese was then transferred to Mercy San Juan for further care, according to the release.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
Drugs/alcohol are not suspected in the collision, according to the CHP, and all parties were wearing their seat belts.
