An elderly man died after a single-vehicle crash on Lake Shore Drive on Friday afternoon, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
Police and emergency responders were called to the 2300 block of Lake Shore Drive shortly after 3 p.m., when a dark-colored sedan crashed into a treeline along the roadway. Swanton said an elderly man was driving in a westbound lane when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and crashed into a tree.
A McLennan County justice of the peace pronounced the man dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle when it crashed.
Police blocked westbound traffic at 19th Street and Lake Shore Drive for more than an hour as they investigated the crash.
Swanton said it was not known if the man suffered a medical episode or if there was another cause for the vehicle leaving the roadway. Police have not released the man's name, pending notification of family.
