A motorcyclist involved in a collision with a car on Interstate 94 in St. Clair Shores early Friday has died from his injuries, police said Saturday.
The motorcyclist is a 46-year-old man from Macomb Township, but his name has not yet been released pending notification of his family, Michigan State Police Lt. Calvin Hart said in a news release.
According to the State Police, the Macomb man was driving his motorcycle on eastbound I-94 near 12 Mile Road about 1 a.m. Friday when he collided with a car.
The car driver told investigators he had stopped momentarily on the right shoulder of the freeway. As he pulled back onto the freeway, he saw in his rearview mirror a motorcycle approaching at a “high rate of speed,” police said.
The motorcycle struck the rear of the car and the Macomb man was thrown from his bike on impact. He was rushed to St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit, where he later died. The car driver was not hurt.
The accident marked the second time in a week that a motorcyclist was involved in a serious accident in St. Clair Shores.
On Wednesday night, a 20-year-old St. Clair Shores man was killed when his motorcycle and a St. Clair Shores police vehicle collided on Eight Mile Road near Beaconsfield. Police still have not yet released the victim’s name.
