A man was killed in a crash in Kannapolis Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
The single-vehicle wreck happened around 2:30 p.m. on Lane Street between Evelyn and Laura Avenues. Police said the vehicle was headed west when it left the roadway, crashed into a telephone pole then came to rest in the front yard of a nearby home.
The victim, a 43-year-old man whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
WBTV was just two blocks away from the scene, reporting on a proposed project "to improve the safety of Jackson Park Road and Lane Street between Main Street and Interstate 85 in Kannapolis."
Investigators have not said what may have caused the crash.
A witness said he heard squealing tires, looked up and saw a car out of control before it crashed into the pole.
