A van struck a car on Interstate 64 in Louisville, killing two sisters and an infant boy died, authorities said.

The victims’ car was traveling westbound when it was struck by a Toyota van and became disabled in the left lane, Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said. Then it was hit by a Hyundai. The impact sent the victims’ car toward the center barrier.

The Clarksville Police Department said in a news release that Samantha Owens, her sister Lauren Owens and her infant son Liam were killed in the crash. Lauren was a fourth-grader at Clarksville Elementary School in Indiana and Samantha Owens was a 2012 graduate of Clarkesville High School, according to Nikolette Langdon, a spokeswoman for Clarksville Community Schools.

Two others involved in the crash were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Clarksville Elementary Principal Mindy Dablow and administrative staff are notifying families of the school district about the crash. The district says counselors will be available to speak to students.
