West Brookfield, Massachusetts
Local police on Thursday arrested a man who led authorities on a high-speed, multi-town chase before he crashed his pickup truck on Route 9 Wednesday night.
In an interview, Police Chief C. Thomas O’Donnell said the driver, whom authorities are still trying to identify because he has given them false information about his identity, crashed into a guardrail and utility pole on Route 9 at Ridge Street.
The man was extricated from the Ford Ranger he was driving, and flown by a medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center — University Campus in Worcester with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
According to state police, a trooper on patrol on the westbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike saw a vehicle that Auburn police had chased earlier for a traffic violation. Auburn stopped the chase before a trooper saw the vehicle on the turnpike.
The trooper, on patrol out of the Charlton barracks, tried to pull the driver over on the turnpike, but the driver did not stop and sped away, according to state police.
