Salem, OR : Two people killed in head-on crash near Woodburn on Thursday morning, November 6, 2014
A Sherwood woman and a Gresham teen died in a head-on crash Thursday morning when the woman tried to pass a car on a two lane road near Salem, Oregon State Police said.
Police officials said Leora Casey, 45, of Sherwood was driving her red Ford Fusion south on French Prairie Road when she went into the oncoming lane to pass a vehicle in front of her.
Casey wasn’t able to get back into the southbound lane before colliding head-on with a white Honda Accord driven by 19-year-old Kyle Sanders.
Casey’s car caught fire after the crash, which quickly engulfed the car. Some witnesses started to put out the flames until fire crews arrived to extinguish the car.
French Prairie Road was closed for several hours between Highway 219 and Lebrun Road while troopers investigated the crash and crews cleared the roadway.
Kyle Sanders would have turned 20 years old on Saturday, state police said.
