QUEENS, NY : Motorcyclist killed in collision with car on Long Island Expressway near 169th Street in Queens on Tuesday, 30th July 2019

A motorcyclist was killed Monday night after being struck by a drunken driver on the Long Island Expressway in Queens, police said.

Authorities said the accident happened around 11:18 p.m., as both vehicles were driving westbound on the highway, near 169th Street in Queens.

When a 27-year-old man driving a Nissan moved from the left lane of the highway into the center lane, he struck the motorcycle, which slide along the roadway, striking a guard rail, police said. He was ejected from the motorcycle.

The Nissan continued westbound and struck the fence separating the Long Island Expressway from the service road.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene and the driver of the motorcycle, 63-year-old Juan Moncada, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Nissan, later identified as Korey Cox, suffered minor injuries and was arrested for driving with a suspended license, authorities said. Cox also faces charges of driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operator, driving while ability impaired by alcohol and refusal to take a breath test.
