Fontana, CA : 55-year-old man dies in hit-and-run crash on 210 Freeway in Fontana on Sunday morning, April 10, 2016

A 55-year-old man died in a hit-and-run incident on the Route 210 Freeway in Fontana on the morning of April 10, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 3:45 a.m., Rancho Cucamonga CHP officers responded to a call of a traffic collision on the eastbound 210, west of Cherry Avenue.

The victims (a driver and two passengers) had just stopped on the gore point of the Cherry off-ramp to inspect a possible tire failure. As the parties got out of their vehicle, the right rear passenger noticed the suspect vehicle approaching their location at a high rate of speed; he jumped back into the rear of their vehicle as the suspect vehicle’s left side collided with the right side of the victim’s vehicle. The right front passenger did not see or have enough time to react and was struck by the suspect vehicle.

When CHP officers arrived on scene, they located the victim’s vehicle and two males were standing outside of it. They also saw a body lying approximately 40 feet away from the vehicle.
A San Bernardino County firefighter/paramedic declared the victim, Pomona resident Jose Alvarado, dead at the scene; he suffered from blunt force trauma to his body.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a white, mid-sized, sport utility vehicle with damage to the left front side. The suspect vehicle was last seen exiting on Cherry from the eastbound 210.
