LUDLOW, CA : A crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 40 on Wednesday, December, 27th 2017

Authorities said no injuries were reported from a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 40 early Wednesday morning.

Reported at 7:13 a.m., the crash occurred on eastbound I-40, about five miles east of Ludlow. A HazMat team was required to respond to a fuel leak due to the crash, officials said.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Adam Carmichall, the crash occurred as a tractor-trailer hauling medical equipment was parked on the right shoulder of eastbound I-40.

“Another tractor-trailer hauling cheese traveling east side-swiped the left rear side of the parked tractor-trailer,” Carmichall said.

The crash caused the trailer of the first vehicle to partially detach. Carmichall said 50 to 75 gallons of diesel fuel leaked when a fuel line ruptured on the second tractor-trailer, prompting a response from HazMat.

No injuries were reported from the incident, but the No. 2 eastbound lane of I-40 was closed while authorities investigated the crash and cleaned up the scene. Carmichall said the lane is expected to remain closed until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
