SPRINGFIELD, OR : One person died and another was taken to the hospital following a T-bone collision on Monday, October, 30th 2017
One person died and another was taken to the hospital following a T-bone collision Monday afternoon at Fifth Street and Hayden Bridge Way.
The crash happened at 2:45 p.m. in front of a day care center just as parents were picking up children, who were being ushered away from the scene.
Police said it appeared that the Chevrolet Tahoe, which was pulling a loaded utility trailer, crashed into the left side of a red Toyota Corolla, then pushed the sedan for a short distance.
The driver of the Corolla died at the scene, and the passenger in that car was taken by ambulance to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, police said. The passenger’s condition was not known Monday afternoon.
The driver of the Tahoe remained at the scene, a small amount of blood on his head, and he was assisting police.
Springfield police Lt. Scott McKee described the crash as a T-bone accident in the intersection. It happened just outside the Springfield city limits, McKee said. Oregon State Police and Lane County sheriff’s deputies also are handling the investigation into the cause of the crash.
