Mayfield Township, MI : 2 on motorcycle killed in crash with SUV in Mayfield Township on Sunday, 25th August 2019 2 hours ago

Lapeer County sheriff's deputies are investigating a Sunday crash between a sport utility vehicle and a motorcycle that killed two people, officials said.

Deputies were called at about 3:41 p.m. to an area of North Lapeer and Mayfield roads about a crash involving a motorcycle, according to authorities.

Witnesses told deputies a 2005 GMC Envoy heading north on North Lapeer was driving erratically. The Envoy crossed the center line of the road, they said, moved into the southbound lane and into the path of a 2012 Harley-Davidson.

The SUV and the motorcycle crashed head-on, police said. The motorcycle's rider and his passenger, each wearing a helmet, were ejected.

Paramedics declared the rider, identified as Brian Stamp, 53, of Marlette, and his passenger, Rhonda McHaffy, 51, also of Marlette, dead at the scene. Police said the two were boyfriend and girlfriend.

Officials transported the Envoy's driver, a 45-year-old North Branch man, to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
