Franklin County, KS : Former Osage County sheriff killed in motorcycle crash on K-68 highway near Kentucky Road on Sunday night, June 19, 2016
A former Osage County sheriff has died after a motorcycle crash Sunday night in Franklin County, authorities said Tuesday.
The victim was identified as David Cain.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards, the crash occurred about 8 p.m. on K-68 highway near Kentucky Road.
Richards said the preliminary investigation concluded Cain was riding a 2000 Harley-Davidson west on K-68, following a car and a 2002 Dodge pickup truck that had slowed while preparing to make a left turn onto a service road.
As Cain tried to pass the car and pickup, his motorcycle collided with the side of the truck while both vehicles were in the eastbound lane.
Cain, 59, of Lyndon, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle was taken to an area hospital by Franklin County Emergency Medical Services.
A 16-year-old girl who was driving the pickup truck and her passenger weren’t injured.
This incident is being investigated by the Franklin County Crash Team, consisting of members of the sheriff’s office and the Ottawa Police Department. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Wellsville police assisted at the scene.
K-68 was closed for about four hours while authorities investigated the crash.
