Ormond Beach, FL : Motorcyclist, car passenger killed in crash on U.S. 1 near Wilmette Avenue Monday night, August 22, 2016

A motorcyclist and a 17-year-old passenger of a car were killed Monday night after a traffic crash, police said.

Ormond Beach police spokesman Officer Keith Walker said motorcyclist Michael Rosales, 24, was heading south on U.S. 1 near Wilmette Avenue just after 9 p.m. At the same time a driver of a car was about to turn left onto Wilmette Avenue, Walker said.

The biker slammed into the vehicle, striking the passenger side of the car. Passenger Leah Bann, 17 of Ormond Beach was the front seat passenger. She was entrapped and later died at the scene, Walker said.

Rosales, also of Ormond Beach, was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center and died sometime later, Walker said.

The crash remains under investigation, Walker said.
