Selma, CA : 3 dead in Selma after early-morning crash into canal on April, sunday 23th 2017
Three Kingsburg men ages 20, 21 and 25 died after their car overturned into a canal in Selma early Sunday morning, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joseph Bianchi.
The three and a fourth man, all from Kingsburg, were driving on South Del Rey Avenue where it curves into South Mill Ditch Avenue around 4:50 a.m., said Bianchi. The 21-year-old driver missed the curve, and the gray Mazda crashed into the canal. It was partly submerged in water and Cal Fire assisted in the rescue.
Passenger Cole Contreras, 21, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and survived with minor injuries, the CHP said. The other three were pronounced dead at the accident site.
Contreras and another passenger were wearing seatbelts, while the driver and third passenger were not, said Bianchi.
Alcohol as well as speed were factors in the crash, the CHP said.
The identities of the dead men have not been released pending notification of kin.
