Sarasota County, FL : 17-year-old driver criticallly injured in crash on Manasota Key Road on Saturday night, April 9, 2016

A 17-year-old driver was critically injured after he reportedly tried to pass a vehicle on Manasota Key Road and lost control of his car Saturday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol:Shortly before 11:30 p.m., Chace Andrew Neer of Rotonda West, drove southeast on Manasota Key Road in a 2000 Ford Mustang, northwest of Gnarled Oak Road, and moved into the northbound lane to pass a car. He lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway, and hit a utility pole.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
