New Bremen, OH : 19-year-old Houston woman injured following a two-vehicle accident on state Route 66 in Auglaize County on Tuesday, Sep 8, 2015

A 19-year-old Houston woman suffered serious injuries following a two-vehicle accident on state Route 66 near state Route 219.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol post at Wapakoneta, the accident actually involved three vehicles — a Ford Focus, a Pontiac Grand Prix and a Kenworth semitrailer — all headed north on 66.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the 19-year-old, identified as Hunter Smith, was turning left to enter a private driveway when the Pontiac stopped abruptly to avoid colliding with Smith’s car and the semitrailer.

The semi driven by Ernest Raber, 68, of Clyde, was steered into the left lane to avoid the Pontiac and hit Smith’s car.

Smith was taken first to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, then taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center by medical helicopter. She was in the ICU on Tuesday evening, according to the patrol.

Raber and the driver of the Pontiac, who was not identified by name, were not injured in the accident, which was reported about 12:45 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
