The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed most of Saturday morning after a fatal rear-end collision involving four commercial vehicles near Quartzsite.The interstate was reopened just before noon, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia, at 5:39 a.m., a commercial tractor-trailer failed to slow down for congested traffic related to a wrong-way fatal collision.Garcia said the tractor-trailer rear-ended another commercial tractor-trailer pulling a double semi-trailer. This caused two other large commercial vehicles with trailers to be rear-ended due to the initial impact, which ignited the vehicles involved in the initial crash.The driver of the commercial vehicle who failed to slow down was killed in the accident, Garcia said.He said while it was unknown why the driver failed to slow for congested traffic, though fatigue has not been ruled out.Traffic was detoured onto U.S. 60 eastbound, located at milepost 31 on I-10. Drivers were then routed to Vicksburg Road, which intersects with I-10 at milepost 46, according to ADOT.
